Water rarely comes in where it shows
A damp patch on a ceiling is the end of the story, not the beginning. Water can enter at a cracked flashing, a blocked valley or a slipped tile well away from the stain, then track along timbers or the underfelt before it shows indoors. Repairs that chase the stain are why some leaks get fixed three times and never actually stop.
More often than not the covering itself is sound and the failure is at a detail: chimney flashings, flaunching, valleys, the junctions where a roof meets a wall. Much of the older housing across Leeds still carries its original slate or tile, and age alone is no reason to condemn a roof that only needs its details putting right.
Our approach
Diagnosis first. We find where the water is getting in, show you, and quote for fixing exactly that. Typical work: slipped and broken tiles or slates matched and refixed, storm damage made watertight quickly and then repaired properly, flashings redressed, valleys cleared or relined, and chimney surrounds repointed and reflashed.
If the roof is hard to reach, or you just want a quick opinion, photograph it from the ground or a window and send the pictures to us by phone. We can often tell you what you are looking at, how urgent it is, and roughly what it will take to put right before anyone books a visit.
When we will not sell you a repair
Some roofs are past the point where patching is honest work. When tiles keep slipping because the nails have gone, and the felt beneath has torn in more places than it has held, a repair buys months and costs money that should be going towards a re-roof. We say so plainly, price both options where the call is close, and leave the decision with you. We would rather lose a small job than take payment for a patch we know will not hold.
